By Ray Hamill — Both College of the Redwoods basketball teams will return to the court on Saturday as they get set for an important doubleheader of action.

The CR teams will host College of the Siskiyous in Golden Valley Conference play, with the women getting the day’s action started at 1 p.m., and the men following at 3.

The Redwoods women will face another challenging showdown.

After a disappointing loss to Butte last weekend, they will be hoping to get back on track against an Eagles team that is tied for the conference lead with the Roadrunners.

Both Siskiyous and Butte are 2-0 in the GVC and the Eagles are now 8-10 overall after winning three straight games.

The Redwoods women have been competitive this winter despite battling a plethora of injuries.

Head coach Bree Northern did an exceptional job recruiting this past offseason and it’s paying dividends, with plenty of cover for the injured players.

CR is 1-1 in conference play, having won at Shasta in its conference opener nine days ago, and 9-9 overall.

A win on Saturday would put CR firmly back in the race for this year’s conference championship.

The Butte women have a bye this weekend.

The CR men, meanwhile, will be looking to continue their fast start to conference play.

Redwoods has won three straight games and is 13-7 on the season.

Head coach Justin Claus and his players are tied for the conference lead with Feather River after GVC wins over Shasta and Butte.

Siskiyous is 1-1 in conference and 6-14 overall.
