The Lumberjacks returned to action Friday night, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills in their first games of the new year, and it was a good start to 2026 for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The Humboldt women got the night under way and won 91-55 to go to 5-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (7-4 overall).

The Jacks remain in a three-way tie for the conference lead with Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona, each of which also won this week, and they are two wins clear of fourth-placed Cal State Los Angeles.

The impressive start to conference is their best since the 2014 season.

The Humboldt men followed with a 97-91 overtime win over the Toros and improved to 3-2 in the CCAA and 5-6 overall.

The Humboldt women secured their win with dominant first and third quarters.

The Jacks opened up a 26-8 lead in the opening quarter and would outscore the visitors 34-11 in the third, shooting over 76 percent from the field during the period while holding Dominguez Hills to just two made field goals.

Defense proved to be the difference all night, as Humboldt forced 24 turnovers and converted them into 25 points.

Five Lumberjacks finished in double figures, showcasing Humboldt’s offensive balance.

Kyori Lloyd led the way with 18 points, while Sienna Cherwinski added 16 on 6-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers.

The Lumberjacks will look to keep their perfect conference record going on Sunday, when they host Los Angeles at 1 p.m.

It will be Youth Day for all local kids and campers, with postgame autographs and photo opportunities for those in attendance.

The Humboldt men, meanwhile, won an overtime thriller, outscoring the visitors by six points in the extra period.

The win was the second straight for the Lumberjacks, who won with one of their most complete offensive performances of the season, with six players finishing in double digits in scoring, led by Wayne Hampton III’s 22 points.

Drew Ardouin provided a spark off the bench and added 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including four 3s.

The Humboldt men will also host Los Angeles on Sunday at 3 p.m.
