The Del Norte Warriors are building some nice momentum at a good time of the year.
On Saturday, the Warriors closed out the Anderson tournament with a 50-41 win over Redding Christian, stretching their winning streak to six straight games and improving to 10-2.
This is the third straight year the Crescent City school has won the Anderson tournament.
“We had a good day,” Del Norte head coach Cris Rice said. “That was a good team, but we kind of brought a different level of intensity than we have all season.
“We played really good on the defensive end, holding them to 41 points. The kids came to play.”
The loss was the first of the year for the Lions, who were held to a season-low in points and dropped to 4-1.
Different players have been stepping up for the Warriors on different nights, and this time it was Sawyer Fry.
The junior finished with team-highs in points (18) and rebounds (eight), and had four 3-pointers.
Markus Parras also impressed in the win and was named tournament MVP.
Parras added 17 points and showcased his tenacity on defense with five steals.
Ty Blue, Damian Escalera and Rek Alameda each chipped in four points.
Escalera also had four steals.
The Warriors started fast and never allowed the Lions back into the game, holding a double-digit lead for much of the game.
“We’re spreading the wealth,” Rice said. “I’m proud of all of the kids. Even the kids off the bench gave us some quality minutes.
“It was kind of a team win.”
Next up, the Warriors will travel for a challenging non-tournament game at South Medford two days after Christmas.
