Mia Hoogendoorn hit a game-winning 3-point basket with just two seconds remaining against the No. 22 team in the state on Saturday, as the College of the Redwoods women continued their impressive start to the new season.
Playing at San Mateo, Hoogendoorn’s clutch basket lifted the CR women to a 60-59 win over Santa Ana as they improved to 4-1 on the season.
Redwoods also defeated Chaffey College 83-69 on Friday night.
“We started the game off down, but found a way to fight back,” CR head coach Bree Northern said of Saturday’s game. “I am so proud of my team for fighting the entire game.”
Hoogendoorn finished with 13 points and three rebounds, including the big basket, while Nora Talty continued her very impressive start to the new season and finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Addison Wingate added nine points, four assists and two steals, while Mayleah Jackson chipped in nine points and four assists.
Talty, who has scored a team-high in points in all five CR games so far, also had a good game on Friday night, scoring 17 points against Chaffey to go with three rebounds and two steals.

But a deep roster this year ultimately made the difference.
“The girls came off the bench, brought a different energy and we were able to chip back and make it a game,” Northern said. “I am so incredibly proud of how hard my team worked.
“They fought the whole game and we were able to control the momentum for most of the second half.”
Hoogendoorn added 16 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Wingate also had a good night as she continues to adjust well to the collegiate level and finished with 15 point, five rebounds and two assists.
