The Cal Poly Humboldt women dropped into third in the conference soccer standings with their first conference loss on Sunday.
The Jacks welcomed Cal State San Bernardino to College Creek Field and lost 3-2 on their senior day.
It was the first goals the Humboldt defense has allowed in six games.
With the loss, Humboldt dropped to 3-1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (11 points) and 5-4-4 overall.
The Jacks, who led the conference after a Thursday win over Stanislaus State, now trail Cal Poly Pomona (13 points) and Chico State (12) in the standings, with San Bernardino (10) now tied with Cal State East Bay (10) for fourth.
Before kickoff on Sunday, Humboldt celebrated eight seniors who have made a lasting impact on the program — Frida Duran Arellano, Annie Hoffman, Josie Wolitzky, Carson Thomson-Terrel, Alexis Blue, Morgan Young, Payton Heaney and Camryn Patten — honoring their contributions both on and off the field.
The Jacks struck first in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a free kick that resulted in an own goal to take a 1–0 lead.
However, the Coyotes quickly responded just two minutes later when Bella Cervantes converted a penalty kick to even the match.
Cervantes would go on to complete the hat trick, scoring twice more in the second half to give CSUSB a 3-1 advantage.
Humboldt continued to fight, cutting the deficit in the 75th minute when former Arcata High and College of the Redwoods standout Alia Prentiss found the back of the net off an assist from Heidie Muñoz, but the Jacks couldn’t find the equalizer despite generating 11 shots and four corner kicks.
The Jacks now embark on a challenging stretch to close the regular season, playing four of their final five matches on the road.
Up next, Humboldt heads south to face conference leaders Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The Jacks also play at Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
