Bragging rights will stay with Ferndale for another year.
On Friday night, in a game that was delayed by 90 minutes because of lightning in the area, the Wildcats cruised to one of their easiest Milk Can game victories in a long time, dominating the Huskies at Fortuna on the way to a 49-0 win.
Coming into the season there were some high expectations placed on the shoulders of the Ferndale players, and so far they have more than lived up to those expectations.
Through three games they have now outscored their opponents by a combined 168-0, dominating all three games in every aspect.
On Friday, Prescott Langer scored three touchdowns in the win, while fellow senior Tanner Pidgeon added two TD runs and threw for another, as the visitors emphatically took control and never allowed the Huskies settle in.
Playing in front of a large crowd, as always for the highly-anticipated rivalry showdown, the Cats opened the scoring on a short Pidgeon TD run midway through the first quarter on their first possession of the night.
They would cough up the ball on their second drive when Fortuna’s Michael Shaw recovered a fumble.
But the Wildcats would add TDs on their next three possessions to quickly take control, two of them by Langer.
The senior running back, who always seems to set a physical tone, scored on a five-yard TD run to put the visitors up 12-0, and a two-point conversion by Pidgeon just moments later stretched the advantage to 14.
Impressive sophomore Liam Bishop continued his big season with a 45-yard TD reception from Pidgeon on the next Ferndale possession, a score that was set up on a nice punt return by Bishop.
Langer would close out the first-half scoring on a 70-yard TD run and the Cats led 28-0 at the break.
After that, there was no way back for an outmatched Fortuna team that has been battling a lot of injuries early in the season and played the game without star running back Kavi Bolden.
Langer scored his second long TD run of the night early in the third quarter, this one from 49 yards out, before Pidgeon added another TD run to put the visitors up 42-0.

Another standout senior running back, Rolland McClurg, closed out the scoring with the seventh Ferndale TD of the night on 29-yard run late in the fourth quarter, showcasing just how much depth the Cats have for a small school program.
The two teams went to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
The loss was the third straight to start the season for the Huskies.
The Huskies will try to bounce back when they host University Prep next week, while the Cats will host Eureka in an intriguing all-local matchup.
