Local high school and college games to be broadcast live on radio

By Ray Hamill — The new high school and college football seasons kick off this weekend, and as always several games will be broadcast live on local radio this fall.

As usual, up in Crescent City KPOD 97.9 FM and DelNorteSports.com will carry all of the Del Norte games, while all of the College of the Redwoods games will be broadcast live on local ESPN affiliate, 107.3 FM and 1340 AM.

Del Norte opens the new season this weekend at home against the Hoopa Warriors, with the varsity game set for 7:30 p.m.

College of the Redwoods opens at home against Sacramento City College on Saturday afternoon at the Redwood Bowl at 1 p.m.

The Beat 95.1 FM will also carry several games this season, featuring five of the nine H-DNL varsity programs.

Longtime broadcaster Tag Wotherspoon will call the action along with guest analysts each week.

The Beat schedule begins with a pair of games this weekend.

On Friday night, Wotherspoon will travel to St. Helen for the Fortuna Huskies’ opener, before returning to the North Coast to broadcast Saturday afternoon’s game between St. Bernard’s and Clear Lake at Crusader Field.

Friday’s broadcast begins at 6:45 p.m., with kickoff set for 7, while Saturday’s game begins at 2 p.m.

This year’s schedule of games being broadcast also includes the highly-anticipated Milk Can showdown between Fortuna and Ferndale (Sept. 19), as well as all six of St. Bernard’s Big 4 games and five of Fortuna’s six conference games.

The Fortuna Huskies open the new season at St. Helena on Friday night.
