A pair of former H-DNL stars faced off at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday night, as the West Coast Kings ended the Humboldt Crabs’ eight-game winning streak.

The Kings scored five runs in the top of the fourth and held the high-flying Crabs offense in check for much of the night on the way to a 6-2 victory.

Eureka’s Rogan Bode, who plays shortstop for the Kings, finished 1-for-3 and drove in one of his team’s runs on his return to the North Coast.

The 2023 Eureka High graduate faced former Fortuna Husky Cody Collins, who pitched four innings and suffered his first loss of the summer, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks and striking out three.

Fresh off a very impressive road trip to Medford that saw them rack up 43 runs on 45 hits in three games, the Crabs bats were held to just one hit through the opening eight innings of Friday’s game.

Both of their runs came in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late and they were unable to overcome a six-run deficit.

The top three bats in the Crabs’ lineup were all held hitless on the night.

Houston Hirschkorn led a four-hit team performance and finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Adam Enyart and Jacob Pappas each also had a base hit in the loss.

Landon Marchetti pitched six strong innings for the win, giving up just one hit and three walks and striking out eight.

With the loss, the Crabs dropped to 27-5 overall and 11-5 in the Pacific Empire League, but they remain second in the standings, three wins clear of the third-placed Lincoln Potters.

The Kings improved to 12-14 overall and 4-10 in league.

The two clubs will continue a four-game weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday night, with game one set for 5:30 p.m.

The Crabs and Kings will close out the series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m.
