Crabs fall to the Healdsburg Prune Packers in PEL opener

The Humboldt Crabs kicked off the Pacific Empire League at Healdsburg on Tuesday night and suffered their first loss of the season.

The host Prune Packers scored runs in four of the first five innings to open up an eight-run advantage and they held on down the stretch for an 11-6 victory.

With the win, Healdsburg improved to 1-0 in the PEL and 8-0 on the season, while the Crabs stopped to 0-1 and 12-1.

Keenan Morris led the visitors at the plate as he continues to impress in the leadoff role.

The former Eureka Logger finished 2-for-4 with a walk and also scored one of his team’s runs.

Cameron Sewell hit his second home run of the season for the Crabs, while Adam Enyart and Elijah McNeal each added a double.

Arcata’s Miles Oliver got the start on the mound and threw 1.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on two hits and two walks.

Baylor Sandberg took the loss in relief.

The two clubs will continue a three-game series on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
