Several former players showed up to support the Arcata High baseball program over the weekend.

On Saturday, head coach Troy Ghisetti and his team hosted an alumni game at the school field, with the former players prevailing 15-4.

The weekend festivities continued on Sunday with the program’s annual fundraising golf tournament at Baywood Golf & Country Club.

The alumni team, which featured nine former Arcata High players, comfortably took care of business against the 2025 squad in Saturday’s showdown.

Among the highlights from the game, Sam Kauffman hit a two-run home run to opposite field.

Starting alumni pitcher Tom Souza also had a day to remember, shutting out the varsity bats early in the game and pitching a no-hitter through four innings.

The hard-throwing Kyle Vina took over in relief and closed out the game to help seal the win.

“It was awesome,” Ghisetti said of the alumni game, which was brought back this year after a break in 2024. “We had alumni that came in from out of town and they had a great time.”

Asked whether they would do it again next year, Ghisetti answered with an emphatic “absolutely.”

The alumni players are already looking forward to the occasion as they look to continue their success against the varsity players, and according to Ghisetti they are planning a Facebook page to help recruit more players for the event.

The golf tournament on Sunday was also a big success.

“All of my alumni came out and we had some community members come out,” Ghisetti said of the tournament. “It was fun.”

The Arcata High team will be back in action on Wednesday when the Tigers travel to Fortuna for a Big 5 game
