The Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team has received the No. 4 seed for this week’s California Collegiate Athletic Association, which tips off on Thursday.
The Jacks closed out the regular season with a 75-64 win over Sonoma State on Saturday in what was likely the Seawolves final ever game after the university recently announced it would be dropping all athletic programs.
And the Jacks had to battle, overcoming a 17-point deficit on the way to the win.
With the win, the Jacks improved to 17-10 overall and 13-9 in the CCAA.
“It is always great to get a win on senior night,” head coach Chris Tifft said. “After getting down by 17 early in the game, I thought our guys showed great character and togetherness to reclaim the lead at halftime.
“We had a tremendous home crowd tonight and it was great to give them something to cheer for. Our program has grown in many ways over the past few months and we are excited to head into the postseason.”
The Jacks will travel to San Marcos for the CCAA tournament on Tuesday.
They will take on No. 5 seed Cal Poly Pomona (17-10, 13-9 CCAA) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
The two teams finished tied for the fourth I’m the standings with the same CCAA record and split the season series.
Humboldt held the second tiebreaker over Pomona since they defeated first-place Dominguez Hills earlier in the season.
Also in tournament action on Thursday, No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino will play No. 6 Cal State Los Angeles at Noon.
The winner of that game will advance to play No. 2 Chico State in the first of Friday’s semifinals at noon, while the winner of the Humboldt and Pomona game will play No. 1 Cal State Dominguez Hills in the second semifinal on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday’s tournament final is set for 5 p.m.
