The dynasty is alive and well.
College of the Redwoods basketball has rarely looked this good, and on Saturday afternoon the Corsairs defeated Feather River 94-78 to clinch the program’s fourth Golden Valley Conference championship in five seasons.
And they did it this season with an almost entirely new roster.
“I’ve never seen a group of so many new faces coalesce around a commitment to playing communal basketball like these guys have,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “As the season has gone on, our passion and insistence on playing Redwoods style basketball has created such a unique and durable identity.
“They’ve owned this experience and really made it their own.”
Bisio and associate head coach Justin Claus have worked their magic at CR since taking over the program in the spring of 2019 and together they have led the local community college program to a conference title in four of their five seasons.
On Saturday, the coaches had their players ready to go and there was no disappointment for the large crowd in attendance.
The 94 points was the team’s fourth highest tally of the season.
“That might have been the most explosive offensive eruption we’ve ever had to start a game,” Bisio said. “To say our guys were ready to play is an understatement. We asserted ourselves with overwhelming tone and bright energy.”

The CR men shot a remarkable 42 percent from 3-point range, nailing 17 of their 40 attempts.
Mason Mottashed and Alfonso Medina led the offensive charge.
Mottashed finished with a team-high 22 points and also had six assists, while Medina added 21 points and five rebounds.
“Mason Mottashed’s steady confidence gives us all courage,” Bisio added. “He guided us through in that second half when Feather River made their inevitable run.
“When we need momentum changing plays Mason always delivers and makes it look relaxed.”
The championship is the eighth all-time for the program, with Bisio and Claus having won half of that tally.

CR’s Isai Sow added 19 points and seven assists, while teammate Josh Neal chipped in 10 points.
As a team, CR finished with 32 assists on 36 field goals.
“Isai was unworldly on both sides of the ball all day,” Bisio said. “Holding their leading scorer to three points on the defensive end while igniting our offense with his shotmaking.
“I hope he always remembers what he did today because I sure will.”
The Corsairs, who will host a playoff game as conference champions, will close out the regular season at home against Lassen on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in what will now be a championship celebration.
