By Ray Hamill — Wednesday night was a good one for the College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team despite not playing a game.

Thanks to Siskiyous upsetting Butte in Golden Valley Conference play, the Corsairs moved within one win of securing the conference championship.

Siskiyous won the game 76-72.

With two games remaining, the CR men are 6-2 in conference play, with Butte one game back at 5-3.

However, after sweeping the conference series against the Roadrunners the Corsairs hold the tiebreaker over their closest challengers.

That means head coach Ryan Bisio and his players can clinch the championship with a win in either of their final two games, each of which will be played at home.

They host Feather River on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Lassen on Tuesday (7 p.m.).

Feather River is 4-4 in conference and 16-9 overall, while Lassen is 3-6 and 10-15.

CR is 19-7 overall.

Butte’s two remaining games are both on the road, at Shasta on Saturday and at Feather River on Wednesday.

A conference championship would be the fourth in the five seasons Bisio and associate head coach Justin Claus have been in charge at CR.
