Niclai tournament games to be broadcast live on local radio

By Ray Hamill — The annual Dick Niclai basketball tournaments will conclude on Friday night with a pair of championship games at Lumberjack Arena.

On Wednesday night, Big 5 rivals Arcata and McKinleyville both won their boys semifinals at College of the Redwoods to advance to the 2025 final.

The girls semifinals will take place at CR on Thursday night, with Ferndale playing Big 5 champion Arcata at 6 p.m., followed by another big showdown between crosstown rivals Eureka and St. Bernard’s at 7:30 p.m.

And Tag Wotherspoon and The Beat 95.1 FM crew will be on hand to call the action for three of the final four tournament games.

The longtime local broadcaster will bring us Thursday’s Eureka and St. Bernard’s game, as well as both championship games.

The pregame shows get under way 15 minutes before game time.

On Wednesday night, Arcata defeated Hoopa 68-37 in the first of the two boys semifinals, while McKinleyville got off to a fast start against St. Bernard’s and won 57-47.

Big crowds are expected on hand for Thursday night’s semifinals and Friday night’s championship games.
