What happens if there’s a three-way tie for second in the Little 4?

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Ferndale Wildcats will play at Hoopa on Friday night.

By Ray Hamill — With Little 4 champs St. Bernard’s win over Hoopa on Thursday night and Ferndale beating South Fork, there remains a high possibility there will be a three-way tie for second in the final conference standings.

One game remains in conference play, with Hoopa hosting Ferndale on Friday night in a game that was pushed back from Tuesday because of the weather conditions.

If the Warriors win, they would close out conference action 2-4, which would leave them tied with Ferndale and South Fork.

It would also mean, all three schools went 1-1 against each other.

In that event, a coin toss and play-in game would decide the conference’s Nos. 2 and 3 seeds for next week’s Dick Niclai tournament.

The league announced on Friday that if there is a threes-way tie, a three-way coin toss would be held, with the winner automatically advancing to the Niclai tournament.

The other two teams would then face off in a play-in game on Saturday night, with home venue decided by a second coin flip.

The winner of that game would receive the No. 2 seed for the tournament and would host the school that wins the three-way coin toss in first-round action on Monday night.

The Dick Niclai tournament runs for five days, with the championship games set for Lumberjack Arena next Friday night.
