The Jacks are getting some respect after their recent winning streak.
This week, for the first time in over three years, the Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team has broken into the West Region rankings.
After receiving some region votes in recent weeks, the CPH men are now ranked No. 10.
It is the first time they have featured in the rankings since December 2021.
On Saturday, they stretched their winning streak to five straight games with a 91-81 victory at Cal State San Bernardino, which is the longest current winning streak in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The team now sits fourth in the conference standings with a record of 8-6 (12-7 overall), which is an impressive turnaround after the Jacks are languishing in 10th just three weeks ago.
Point Loma tops the region rankings, followed by No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, who Humboldt beat recently, No. 3 Saint Martin’s and both Chico State and San Bernardino tied for fourth.
Saturday’s win was the first at San Bernardino for the program since 2017 and gives the Jacks three combined wins over top-four teams in the region this winter.
It was the first time the Jacks have swept the conference series against the Coyotes since 2015/16
The Coyotes came into the game riding a five-game winning streak.

“It always feels good to get a win versus a quality program like San Bernardino,” CPH head coach Chris Tifft said. “This was the first game in the last two years in which I felt like we had a little bit of a target on our back, and our guys came out ready to play.”
The 91 points marked their highest-scoring output of the season and the most they have tallied since February of last year.
“We played unselfish on the offensive end, and really competed on the defensive end,” Tifft added. “It will be great to get back to Arcata and play in front of our home crowd on Thursday.”
The Jacks will try to keep their good run going when they host Cal State Monterey Bay (6-13, 3-11 CCAA) on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Jacks defeated the Otters in Seaside 81-70 on January 4.
The Cal Poly Humboldt women will also be in action against Monterey bay on Thursday at 5:30.
