The St. Bernard’s girls secured their 23rd win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they close in on a remarkable 25-win regular season.

In a matchup of top-five Division-5 teams in the state, the No. 3 Crusaders welcomed No. 5 Trinity to Eureka for a non-conference showdown and won the game 57-47.

The victory was the 14th straight for the high-flying SB girls who improved to 23-1, while the Wolves, who had won 10 of their previous 11 games, dropped to 18-6.

The win was achieved less than 24 hours after the Crusaders secured at least a share of this year’s Little 4 championship with a hard-fought win over Ferndale.

“I am proud of the ladies,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said afterwards. “They found a way to win a tough game on a back-to-back from a tough game last night.

“It was not pretty at times today, but good teams find ways to win ugly games.”

Laila Florvilus had another big all-around game for the Crusaders as the dynamic senior continues to flourish in her final high school campaign.

She finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, while also adding six steals and four assists.

Freshman Carli Baum, who also is enjoying an outstanding season for the defending Division-4 state champs, added 11 points, six steals and four assists.

Sophomore CJ Figas, who continues to establish herself at the varsity level, added seven points in the win, while sisters Jocelyn and Samantha Sundberg each had five points.

Alyssa Boham and Aliyah Vigil added four and three points, respectively, in the win.

The Crusaders have two games remaining in the regular season, including a senior night showdown at home against South Fork on Wednesday.
