Laila Florvilus came within two steals of triple-double, as the Crusaders defeated Del Norte 61-50 in a non-conference girls basketball game at St. Bernard’s on Wednesday night

The win was the 10th straight for the hottest team in the H-DNL and lifted the Crusaders to 19-1 on the season.

Florvilus continued her outstanding senior season with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals.

“Laila Florvilus had a monster game,” SB head coach Matt Tomlin said. “The senior superstar continues to amazing on both ends of the court.”

Sophomore guard CJ Figas also impressed for St. Bernard’s and has been one of her team’s most impressive players in recent games.

Figas added 15 points in the win, but that wasn’t the only thing that impressed her coach.

“CJ Figas has quickly developed into one of our top players and she had another strong game on both ends of the court,” Tomlin added.

The ever-consistent Tsinte Steinruck led the way for the visitors and finished with a team-high 15 points, while teammate Brooklyn Carter added 12 points.

With the loss, the Warriors dropped to 13-9, but to their credit they battled all game.

“I’m really proud of the effort tonight from the girls,” Del Norte head coach Dylan Nelson said. “We battled all night long against a really good team.”

Senior Makana Baugh also impressed for the Del Norte girls and finished with 11 points.

“Tsinte and Brooklyn both made crucial shots and Makana played her best game of the year,” Nelson said.

Jocelyn Sundberg and Carli Baum each added five points for the Crusaders, while two of their teammates provided a big spark off the bench.

“I also want to credit Sahara Tupua and Tally Williams, who both came off the bench and provided great defense and toughness tonight,” Tomlin said.

Despite the loss, the Warriors are playing some good basketball at an opportune time of the season, including a key 49-42 win over Fortuna on Tuesday.

“We are getting back to being the team we knew we could be,” Nelson said. “St. Bernard’s made a few short runs early in the game to stretch it out, but stayed in the fight.”
