The St. Bernard’s Crusaders continued to roll in Little 4 girls basketball on Thursday night, while the Ferndale Wildcats responded to their coach’s challenge in emphatic fashion.
The Crusaders traveled to South Fork and came away with a dominating 77-22 win as they improved to 2-0 in conference play.
At Hoopa, the visiting Wildcats also won their game, defeating the Warriors 77-46 for their first conference win as they improved to 1-1 in the L4.
CJ Figas and Samantha Sundberg each led the Crusaders with a game-high 13 points, as St. Bernard’s won for the 17th time in 18 games this season.
Alyssa Boham added 10 points in the win, while Laila Florvilus and Jocelyn Sundberg each chipped in nine points.
A pair of freshmen also impressed for the SB girls, who have now won eight straight games.
Tally Williams added eight points and Carli Baum finished with five.
Makinsey Lemley also had five points for the SB girls.
Next up for the Crusaders is a rematch with the team that knocked them out of the North Coast Section playoffs last year.
They will travel to compete at the Heritage High School MLK Day Event on Monday, facing Cornerstone Christian at 2:45 p.m.
At Hoopa, meanwhile, the Ferndale girls rediscovered their offense in a comfortable win over the host Warriors.
The Wildcats ended a two-game losing skid with the win and beat their previous best offensive performance of the season by 16 points.
“It was a good way to get out of our offensive funk with the game tonight,” Ferndale head coach Chris Ardrey said. “I challenged the girls in practice the last couple of days and they responded well.”
Tinnley Pidgeon scored a game-high 29 points in the win, while teammate Michaela Ellsmore added 19 points.
With the win, the Cats improved to 11-6 on the season.
The Ferndale girls had been held to 40 or fewer points in each of their last three games, including back-to-back losses.
“It was nice to see the offense again after those low scoring games,” Ardrey added.
Emily Sauers also impressed in the win, making her presence felt in the paint.
“She controlled the boards,” Ardrey said. “And she did a good job of distributing the ball.”
No stats were immediately available for Hoopa, which dropped to 1-1 in conference and 8-7 on the season.
Little 4 action will continue next Thursday, with Hoopa traveling to play St. Bernard’s and Ferndale hosting South Fork.
