Fortuna and Del Norte faced off for the second time this season in Crescent City on Saturday night and this time was a very different outcome.
On opening weekend it was the Huskies who shut out the Warriors in Fortuna in a non-conference showdown.
On Saturday night, in both teams’ Big 4 openers, it was the Warriors who prevailed, notching their fifth straight win by a score of 21-12.
Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, the home team scored a pair of touchdowns to take control of the game and they never trailed after that.
William McCovey opened the scoring for Del Norte on a 16-yard TD run and Aidan Rice would add a second TD on a six-yard run later in the quarter.
The Warriors carried a 14-6 advantage into the second half, but the Huskies would narrow the deficit on a Jake Houseworth touchdown run.
However, a missed two point conversion attempt would leave them still trailing by two.
Rice would add a second touchdown on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter and the Warriors were able to hold on down the stretch.
Interesting, all five touchdowns in the game were set up on fumble recoveries in opponents territory as both teams coughed the ball up multiple times.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 1-0 in the Big 4 and 6-2 overall.

Senior quarterback Aidan Rice scored a pair of touchdowns for Del Norte on Saturday night.
The loss was the fifth straight for Fortuna, which dropped to 0-1 in conference and 2-6 overall.
Next up, the Warriors will face off against Eureka at the Redwood Bowl, with the winner of that game guaranteed at least a share of this year’s conference championship.
The Loggers defeated St. Bernard’s in their conference opener on Saturday night.
