Former Eureka Logger Jake Hanson saw substantial action in front of a national television audience while playing for the New York Jets on Sunday night.
The 2015 Eureka High graduate entered the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at right guard when Xavier Newman suffered an injury in the third quarter.
Newman had replaced starter Alijah Vera-Tucker earlier in the game after he was also forced from the game because of injury.
Hanson, who played four seasons for the University of Oregon after graduating from Eureka, was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft.
He made his first NFL start for the Packers in the September of 2022.
After being waived by the Packers in August 2023, Hanson followed legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, where he signed with the team’s practice squad in November of that year.
He was re-signed to the Jets practice squad in August of this year and promoted to the team’s active roster in early September.
The Jets lost Sunday’s game 37-15.
The Jets will play the New England Patriots this weekend.
