The College of the Redwoods cross country team traveled to compete at the Pat Ryan Invitational in Santa Rosa over the weekend and enjoyed strong performances by several runners.

Eureka’s Anna Grimmett led the CR women with a 13th-place finish and crossed the finish line at the 5K race in a time of 23 minutes, 24.1 seconds.

Four of Grimmett’s teammates set PRs at the event, smashing their previous best times.

Violetta Gutierrez placed 35th in a time of 25:59.8, which beat her previous PR by over a minute, while Emily Orozco placed 28th and beat her previous PR by two minutes with a time of 26:32.3.

Rounding out the CR women in action, Carolina Perez placed 34th in a time of 38:22.6, which beat her previous best mark by four minutes.

“This is definitely a building year for the team, but everyone is getting better,” CR head coach Reed Elmore said. “They’re all developing into good runners and it’s fun to see and be part of.”

Two CR men also traveled to compete, including Aidan Davis, who placed 27th in a time of 24:20.8.

The time was also a new PR for Davis, who smashed his previous best mark by a minute and 40 seconds.

Uriel Esteves also competed for CR and placed 52nd in a time of 32:15.1.

Next up for CR is the conference championships at Shasta College on Nov. 2.
