By Ray Hamill — Jett Ruby has been named the 2024 Humboldt Crabs MVP after an outstanding summer playing for the longtime local collegiate baseball club at the Arcata Ball Park.

Crabs manager Robin Guiver named Ruby MVP after the team’s season finale against the Menlo Legacy on Sunday afternoon.

The MVP award was one of five awards the team handed out at the end of the season.

In addition to Ruby being named MVP, Andrew Overland was named the team’s Pitcher of the Year, while Bryce Stockton was named Relief Pitcher of the year, Billy Ham was named Offensive Player of the Year and Ethan Rivera received the team’s Morsching/Heinig Coaches Award.

Ruby, who is from Fresno and plays collegiately for Fresno State, led all regular starters with a .392 batting average.

He also had a team-high 67 hits, two home runs and 10 doubles, as well as 25 RBIs, 19 walks and eight stolen bases.

Ham, meanwhile, was almost as impressive one year after being named team MVP.

The Las Vegas native batted .366 with three home runs and a team-high 14 doubles and he also drove in a team-best 38 runs.

On the mound, Overland impressed in seven starts for the Crabs this summer and finished the season with an ERA of 2.77.

Overland, also from Las Vegas, finished with a record of 4-1 and struck out 47 batters in 45.1 innings.

He also made four appearances out of the bullpen and had a save.

Stockton appeared in 15 games, including one start, and also had an outstanding summer at the Arcata ball Park.

The Idaho native finished with an ERA of 5.11 and struck out 45 batters in 31.2 innings. 

He was 1-0 with a save.

Rivera, meanwhile, played catcher for the team and finished with a batting average of .257.

The Crabs finished the season with a record of 33-17.
