Leila Coleman and her teammates enjoyed a big weekend competing for the 14U Humboldt Storm at the Top Gun Softball Tournament in Manteca.
The Storm placed second in the Silver Bracket division and Coleman had a monster weekend at the plate, hitting three home runs in six games.
After going 2-1 in pool play on Saturday, the local travel club went 1-2 on Sunday, including a 7-0 loss to top seeded Top Dog Softball in the championship game.
However, it was a productive weekend for several of the team’s players, including Coleman, who homered twice to center field and once to right field.
All three of her home runs drove in multiple runs and the up-and-coming young local player finished the two days with 11 RBIs.
And she wasn’t the only Storm player to impress.
Her teammate Sephora Machado finished the weekend with three hits, including a walk-off three-run inside-the-park home run.
Machado finished with four RBIs.
After dropping their tournament opener by just one run, the high-scoring Storm offense racked up 24 runs in back-to-back wins to get their tournament back on track.
Breonna Crnkovich finished the weekend with five hits, including a pair of triples and four RBIs, while Kaleya Parkinson had five hits, including a double, and three RBIs
Jaylynn Jacobs added three hits and two RBIs, including a triple; Brooklyn Gonzalez had three hits and two RBIs; Abagail Gossi had two hits and an RBI; and Bryce Sanderson had two hits.
Rounding out an impressive showing for the local travel club, Peyton Shelton also had a hit and Kendall Kercher drove in four runs.
The Storm girls also had some strong pitching performances on their way to the second-place finish.
Coleman threw 14 innings over the two days and had 13 strikeouts, while Parkinson pitched six innings and finished with strikeouts.
Crnkovich and Kercher each also saw time in the circle, while Gossi, Parkinson and Kercher all “played outstanding behind the plate,” according to head coach Bailey Sanderson.
