The Humboldt Crabs will try to put a difficult road trip behind them when they return to the Arcata Ball Park this week.
The Crabs hit the road last week for six Pacific Empire League games and lost all six, getting swept by the Lincoln Potters and Healdsburg Prune Packers.
They closed out the road trip with a 9-1 loss at Healdsburg on Sunday afternoon, after also falling 13-1 to the same team on Saturday night.
The Crabs managed just three hits in Saturday’s loss, including a double by Logan Saloman.
Eureka’s Keenan Morris also had a hit, while former St. Bernard’s Crusader Caleb Ruiz took the loss on the mound.
The home team wasted no time taking control of the game with eight runs in the bottom of the first, and they led 11-0 after three.
Things didn’t get much better for the Crabs on Sunday.
The Prune Packers scored six runs in the opening two innings and had 19 hits in the game.
The Crabs had eight hits in the loss, including two apiece from Morris and Jett Ruby.
Morris had a double, as did Billy Ham.
Nathan Long got the start on the mound and took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in four innings.
With the weekend losses, the Crabs dropped to 0-6 in the new Pacific Empire League and 10-8 overall.
Healdsburg remains unbeaten on the season and improved to 16-0.
The Crabs will try to bounce back when they host the Athletic Edge Express in a two-game midweek series, which gets under way on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
They will then get set for a rematch against Lincoln, when the Potters travel to Arcata for a three-game weekend series.
