After dropping their series opener against the Fresno A’s at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday night, the Humboldt Crabs bounced back to win two straight games and take the weekend series.

On Saturday night, the Crabs won 11-2, and for the second straight weekend they won a rubber match on Sunday afternoon, this time by a score of 9-3.

The Crabs wasted little time taking control of Saturday’s game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second to open up a seven-run advantage.

In his fourth summer with the Crabs, former St. Bernard’s standout Caleb Ruiz got the win on the mound.

Ruiz threw six innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits and one walk while also striking out eight.

Former Eureka Logger Hayden Bode threw three innings in relief and gave up three hits and a walk and struck out five.

Both pitchers got plenty of offensive support, with the Crabs racking up 13 hits, including a home run by Javier Felix, his second of the summer.

Through their opening seven games, the hard-hitting Crabs have hit seven long balls so far.

Felix finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBIs and also had a double, while teammate Troy Harding was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Jehee Lee was 2-for-4 with a double.

The Crabs bats continued to make some noise in Sunday’s rubber match, as the home team took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first and never trailed.

Trent Kees hit a home run in the win, while Feliz remained hot and added two more hits, as did Billy Ham and Ethan Rivera.

Ham had a double and drove in two runs.

Nolan Long pitched five innings for the win on the mound, giving up just four hits and no walks and striking out six.

The Crabs scored four runs in the fourth to open up a 7-1 advantage.

With the loss, the A’s dropped to 1-2.

The Crabs will play a two-game midweek series against the Bercovich Honors on Tuesday and Wednesday night, before hosting the Novato Knicks in a three-game series over the weekend.

Tuesday’s game gets under way at 7 p.m.

Next week, the Crabs will travel to play three-games series against the Lincoln Potters and the Healdsburg Pack in their first Pacific Empire League games.
