Victor Castanada continued his impressive start to the new season at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough for the Humboldt Crabs who dropped their series opener against the Fresno A’s.

The Crabs lost 6-2 with all of the A’s runs coming in the top of the third inning.

Castanada, who already has three home runs in his debut summer with the team, led the Crabs at the plate and had their only two hits of the night.

The Chula Vista native finished 2-for-4 and continued to display his power with a double.

He also drove in one of the Crab’s two runs and now has seven RBIs on the season.

Ty Kennedy and Trent Keys each scored a run for the Crabs.

McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso got his second straight Friday night start on the mound for the Crabs and pitched five innings for the loss.

The former Panthers standout allowed five earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two.

Caleb Nieman and Bryce Stockton each pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The Crabs bats, however, were unable to get much going against the Fresno pitching.

Cooper King pitched five innings for the win, giving up two earned runs on two hits and striking out seven.

The home team committed three errors as they fell to 3-2 on the season, while the A’s were playing their season opener and improved to 1-0.

The two clubs will continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.

They will close out the series on Sunday, with the series finale set for 12:30 p.m.
