By Ray Hamill — A rematch with the team they hammered in last year’s Grizzly Bowl is one of the highlights of the 2024 Corsairs football schedule, which was recently finalized.

Last December College of the Redwoods cruised to a 63-0 win over Hartnell College to secure the program’s first bowl victory in 30 years.

But the Panthers will get an opportunity to avenge that loss when they travel to Humboldt County for a regular-season rematch on Sept. 14.

That game will be the Corsairs’ home opener and the first of three home games in a four-week span.

All of the team’s home games will once again be played at the Redwood Bowl as the local community college installs a new all-weather field on campus.

CR will play five home games in the regular season, and if things go well they could be back at the Redwood Bowl for a bowl game in early December after hosting bowl games there in each of the past two seasons.

The Corsairs will also have a preseason scrimmage at Southern Oregon University on Aug. 24.

The season opener sees the CR men travel to Merced on Sept. 7.

After hosting Hartnell the following week, the Corsairs will then travel to Monterey Peninsula on Sept. 21 in a rematch of the 2022 Grizzly Bowl.

They then play back-to-back home games against San Jose (Sept. 28) and Chabot (Oct. 5), before traveling to Pittsburg to play Los Medanos on Oct. 12.

The Corsairs will have byes on two of the three following weekends, with a trip to play Yuba on Oct. 26 sandwiched in between.

They have three games in November to close out the season, including back-to-back home games against DeAnza (Nov. 9) and Cabrillo (Nov. 16) and a road game at Siskiyous on Nov. 23.

Three of the home games are scheduled for 1 p.m., with the other two starting at 2 p.m.

The game at Yuba is set for 6 p.m. and will be the team’s only night game.
