The Cal Poly Humboldt disc golf team is making its presence felt on a national level.
Last week, the Jacks traveled to South Carolina to compete in the NCAA National Disc Golf Championships and they placed 28th out of 80 teams in the Division-II competition.
The tournament took place over four days and team captain Reuben Davis led the Jacks’ charge with an impressive showing individually.
Davis finished sixth overall out of 319 competitors in the singles competition.
The men’s team, which is coached by Jose Lara, also included Elias Simon, Osiel Palomino and Logan Wolfe.
“We had a great time, we played for each other, and overall it was an amazing trip,” Davis said.
Davis’ top-10 finish also earned him All-American honors.
And he wasn’t the only Lumberjack to impress at the big tournament.
Simon enjoyed the second-best finish for Humboldt and tied for 17th overall, while Palomino tied for 89th, and Wolfe tied for 190th.
The CPH club team is hoping the strong showing can “springboard the disc golf program into a regional powerhouse,” according to a press release.
Plans for next year include competing in some of the most prestigious NCAA preseason disc golf events throughout the country and going back to the NCAA National Championships, where they hope to improve on this year’s strong showing.
