St. Bernard’s Jack Kramer took over sole possession of the league lead in H-DNL boys golf with a four-stroke victory in round three of league play on Monday.
Competing at Del Norte, the Crusaders standout posted the low score of the day for the second straight week, shooting a league season-best round of 72.
Kramer also tied Eureka’s Talon Vigil for the low score of the day last week at Fortuna and now holds a four-stroke advantage in the season standings.
Vigil, who had the low score in both of the first two rounds of league play, had the second best round of the day on Monday with a 77.
Arcata’s Mason Alway and McKinleyville’s Jake Gardner tied for third with rounds of 78, followed by Del Norte’s Kai Russell, Arcata’s Lucas Wemberley and Eureka’s Andrew Stewart, each of whom shot an 82.
Five different schools were represented in the top five individual rounds.
Once again, the Eureka Loggers took the team win, giving them victories in all three opening rounds of league play, with the Arcata Tigers second on each occasion.
The gap, however, has been steadily growing.
After edging a two-stroke victory on opening day at Beau Pre, the Loggers won by three strokes last week and by seven at Del Norte.
The Eureka boys posted a team score of 332, followed by Arcata (339), McKinleyville (348), Fortuna (359) and St. Bernard’s (368).
Eureka’s Wyatt Zerlang, Fortuna’s Lucas Butler and McKinleyville’s Morgan Zhao each also impressed with rounds of 85, while Del Norte’s Blake Larson carded an 87.
Also shooting under 90 were Arcata’s Zayne Morris-Slattery (88), Eureka’s Julian Goodman (88), Fortuna’s Dawson McWhorter (89) and Kadian Thurman (89) and St. Bernard’s Braeden Simpson (89).
Riley Baldy led the Hoopa boys with a round of 108, while Braeden Rice led Ferndale with a round of 120.
The next round of league play won’t be until April 11, when the H-DNL boys travel to Eureka.
