Maeghan Hampton remained red-hot at the plate for the College of the Redwoods softball team, as the Corsairs split a conference-opening doubleheader at Siskiyous on Wednesday.
The CR women lost game one 6-5, but bounced back to take game two 13-5.
After a slow start to the season, the CR women have now won three of their last four games and are building some much-needed momentum as they begin conference play.
Just four days after she went 6-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep of Chabot College, Hampton continued to roll with six more hits at Siskiyous, finishing the day 6-for-8 with a triple and four RBIs.
The former Eureka Logger also had two more stolen bases.
Hampton wasn’t the only CR player to impress.
Former Hoopa Warrior Diamond Bibancos-Knight also has grown in stature in recent games and continued to hit the ball well at Siskiyous.
Bibancos-Knight finished the day with five hits and four RBIs, including going 4-for-5 in game two.
CR saw a pair of leads disappear in the opener.
After scoring two runs in each of the first two innings, they led 4-1, but the home team answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
CR would re-take the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, before Siskiyous rallied again with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and that would prove to be the difference.
Catlin Caughie, Nathalia Chavez and Nae-Rew Martin each also had a base hit in the loss, including a triple by Martin.
The Corsairs trailed early in game two, but quickly took control with four runs in each of the second and third innings to open up an 8-2 lead.
With Allie Egbert in control in the pitcher’s circle, they were able to keep the home team at arm’s length the remainder of the game.

The former McKinleyville Panther struck out four and walked three on her way to her second win of the season.
In addition to four hits each by Hampton and Bibancos-Knight in game two, Bethany Masten went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs, while Caughie added a double and Lily Wyatt-Carr, Ashley Pierce and Jewely Bibancos-Knight each also had a hit to round out a 14-hit team performance.
Jerwely Bibancos-Knight also scored three runs.
Kayla Cockerham also was walked twice and scored three runs.
The Corsairs are now 1-1 in the Golden Valley Conference and 4-14 on the season.
A scheduled Saturday doubleheader at Shasta has been postponed because of the weather and will now be played on April 1.
Next up, the Corsairs will host Mendocino College in a conference doubleheader at Bear River on Wednesday afternoon, with game one starting at 1 p.m.
