By Ray Hamill — So how did the seedings committee do when it comes to the North Coast Section basketball playoffs this year?
With 14 section championship games scheduled for this weekend, it’s time to take a look at how the seeds fared in each bracket and you can decide if the committee got it right.
Of the 14 No. 1 seeds, only two — the St. Bernard’s girls in Division 5 and the Bishop O’Dowd boys in Division 1 — failed to reach their championship games, meaning 12 top seeds have at least reached the final in their brackets.
In addition, six of the 14 championship games feature 1 and 2 seeds in the finals, with an additional three featuring 1 and 3 seeds.
That means, nine of the 14 championships this year will go to a top-three seed.
In fact, 23 of the 28 finalists are a top-three seed in their bracket.
Interestingly, only one of the championship games — the boys D-1 final between No. 3 Dublin and No. 4 Dougherty Valley — will not feature at least one of the top two seeds in the bracket.
The lowest seed to make one of the finals is No. 7 Athenian in the boys Division-5 decider, while two 6 seeds (Benicia boys in Division 2 and Northgate girls in Division 2) also will play for a championship this weekend.
A pair of 4 seeds also will play in a final, the previously mentioned No. 4 Dougherty Valley in Division-1 and the Cornerstone Christian girls in Division 5, the team that beat St. Bernard’s.

The South Fork boys are one of seven No. 2 seeds to reach a championship game this weekend.
