The Corsairs took care of business in their regular-season finale on Wednesday night, and now they must wait and see if they did enough to earn a playoff spot.
The College of the Redwoods men defeated Shasta 101-74 at CR.
After finishing with an overall record of 17-11 and placing second in the Golden Valley Conference with a record of 7-3, the CR men will find out on Sunday whether they made the playoff field.
They certainly made a good case on Wednesday, scoring a season-high in points in their finale with their sixth win in their final seven games.
And that was a fitting way to honor a class of seven sophomores who did not lose a home game in their time with the team.
“I genuinely appreciate how our supporters showed up last night to honor these seven sophomores,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “Our community and student body infused the environment with such excitement. Our guys really feed off playing at home.”
None more so on Wednesday than 2023 GVC MVP Trey Neff, who scored a team-high 31 points in the win, while his twin brother Ty Neff had 19 points.
Former McKinleyville Panther Cody Whitmer also enjoyed one of his best games of the season ands scored 15 points, while former Arcata Tiger Mason Railsback continued to impress and added 14 points.
“What a way to send our sophomores off in their final home game,” Bisio said of the class that includes the Neff brothers, Railsback, Kai Purcell, Jett Cheong, Garrett Hall and Lucq Anderson. “Especially in that second half, I loved how we played with great flair while still respecting the game and our opponent.
“Trey had that look in his eyes tonight. You knew that he knew he was going to be great. What a special person to represent our school for the last two years. He offered our community a four-course meal of his talents all night long.”
CR led by just one point at halftime (37-36) but would pull away after the interval.
The Corsairs hit 16 3-pointers in the win and finish alone in second in the final conference standings, trailing only conference winners Siskiyous.
