All four local college basketball teams will be back in action later this week after mixed fortunes this past weekend.
The College of the Redwoods men remain mathematically alive in the chase for a fourth consecutive conference championship, although their chances are slim.
The Corsairs won 90-75 at Butte on Saturday and improved to 5-3 in the Golden Valley Conference (15-11 overall) with two games remaining.
However, they remain two wins behind conference leaders Siskiyous (7-1), which has clinched at least a share of the title.
Mason Railsback finished with a double-double in Saturday’s win, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
The CR women also were in action at Butte over the weekend and fell 99-39 to the No. 1 team in the state.
Kyla Albee scored a team-high 13 points for CR and also finished with six rebounds and three assists.
The Roadrunners are 26-1 and have won 23 straight games.
Both Cal Poly Humboldt were also in action at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
The Humboldt men fell 61-55 and the women lost 52-46.
Former Arcata Tiger Brandon Bento-Jackson scored a team-high 12 points for the Humboldt men and also had five rebounds and three assists.
The loss was the fifth straight for the struggling Humboldt men, who dropped to 1-16 in conference and 4-18 overall.

The Humboldt women are now 8-9 in conference and 10-11 overall.
The loss dropped the Jacks from fourth to seventh in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
However, they remain in contention for a conference tournament berth, with just one win separating the fourth through ninth teams in the standings.
Both Cal Poly Humboldt teams will play at Stanislaus State (Thursday) and at Cal State Monterey Bay (Saturday), before returning home to play their final three games at Lumberjack Arena.
Both CR teams, meanwhile, will play their final two conference games at home.
The Corsairs host Lassen on Saturday, with the women playing at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m., before closing out the regular season against Shasta next Wednesday.
