All four local college basketball teams lost their games on a disappointing night on Thursday.
The College of the Redwoods men’s and women’s teams fell at Siskiyous to all but end any championship hopes for either, while both Cal Poly Humboldt teams fell at Cal State San Bernardino.
The CR men lost 68-62 and dropped to 4-3 in the Golden Valley Conference standings, which leaves them two wins behind conference leaders Siskiyous (6-1) with three games remaining.
Redwoods trailed for the entire game and faced a 33-27 deficit at halftime.
“My heart breaks for our guys, but this result was more than fair,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “We simply did not play good enough basketball, particularly offensively, to win a big road game in a hostile environment.
“Credit to Siskiyous. They are in the driver’s seat now to win a GVC championship and they deserve it.
“They were more physical than us, displayed more emotional composure and really seized the moment.”
Jett Cheong scored a team-high 15 points for CR, which is now 14-11 overall, while Trey Neff had 12 points and Ty Neff finished with 11 points.
The Corsairs, who have lost three of their four conference road games, will try to bounce back at Butte on Saturday.
“We have one more opportunity this season to figure out how to be ourselves on the road,” Bisio said. “If we knew what the problem was we would have fixed it by now. I really feel for our guys because they just can’t seem to break through the shrink wrap.”

The CR women went into Thursday’s game having not played in 11 days and it showed.
“This was a tough loss,” head coach Jain Tuey said. “I think taking a week and a half off really hurt our rhythm we were getting in. We came out very flat and couldn’t get anything going.”
Ellie Pesch scored a team-high 13 points in the loss, as the Corsairs saw their three-game wining streak end and dropped to 3-2 in the GVC and 9-13 overall.
They trail conference leaders Butte (6-0) by three wins with three games remaining.
“It felt like we struggled to get all five players on the court connecting and all playing hard together,” the head coach said.
Ronee Norwood and Lily Shelton each added nine points for CR, while Kyla Albee scored eight points and Moriah Bowles chipped in five points.
Tuey praised the effort of two players in particular.
“Kyla Albee and Lily Shelton showed a lot of resilience and kept battling the entire game,” she said.
The CR women play at Butte at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Kareem Clark scored a team-high 20 points for the Humboldt men, who lost their fourth straight game and dropped to 1-15 in conference and 4-17 overall.
The Jacks led 26-21 at halftime but were outscored 40-30 after the break
The Humboldt women, meanwhile, were led by Emilia Long, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, as the busy multi-sport standout continues her remarkable year for the Lumberjacks.
With the loss, the Humboldt women dropped to 8-8 in conference and 10-10 overall.
Despite the loss, the Jacks remain well in the chase for a playoff spot.
They are in a five-way tie for fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
