Two days after closing out an undefeated league campaign, the Crusaders set a new standard for St. Bernard’s basketball on Saturday afternoon.

The SB girls traveled to Trinity and came away with a 52-15 victory for their 22nd win of the regular season, which is the most ever in a regular season in program history.

Even more impressive, the St. Bernard’s defense held the No. 3 Division-5 team in the Northern Section to just 15 points.

Head coach Matt Tomlin described the defensive performance as “amazing.”

“Our team defense communication and rotations were special today,” the longtime head coach said. “Our entire team connected and played as one.”

And that’s good timing for the Crusaders, who have received a No. 1 seed for next week’s Dick Niclai tournament and will get a first-round bye before playing either Arcata or McKinleyville in Wednesday’s semifinal.

With Saturday’s win, the Crusaders improved to 22-3.

Laila Florvilus led the offense with 14 points, while Madelyn Shanahan added 12 points and Samantha Sundberg had nine.

Brittyn Ikea also impressed and finished with seven points, while Alyssa Boham added six points.

“I am super proud of these amazing Lady Crusaders,” Tomlin said.

The points total for the Trinity girls was their lowest of the season as they dropped to 14-11.
