It was a disappointing end to 2023 for both Cal Poly Humboldt basketball teams.

The Jacks closed out the year with a conference doubleheader at rival Chico State on Sunday, and the host Wildcats swept both games.

The Chico women won 80-56, handing the Humboldt women a third straight loss, while the Chico men won 69-58 as the Humboldt men remain winless in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Lumberjacks men’s team dropped to 3-7 on the season and 0-5 in conference.

It was the Jacks’ fourth loss in five December games.

Pejan Slater scored a team-high 13 points in the weekend loss, while teammate Ramiah Adedigba finished with 10 points.

The loss for the Cal Poly women dropped them to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference.

Emilia Long and Sara Ahmadpour each scored a team-best 11 points in the loss.

Former Del Norte High and Cal Poly Humboldt player Jadence Clifton had a big game for Chico and finished with eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes off the bench.

Both Humboldt teams will try to get back on track when they travel for a pair of games this week.

They play at Cal State East Bay on Thursday night and at San Francisco State on Saturday afternoon.
