The McKinleyville Panthers bounced back from a non-tournament loss to St. Bernard’s on Tuesday with a 46-32 win over Irvington on the opening night at the Livermore tournament on Thursday.
Also in action on Thursday, the Fortuna girls won their opening game at the Orland Lady Trojan Classic, defeating Las Plumas 57-24, while the high-flying Eureka girls continued to roll with a 64-14 win at Windsor in non-tournament action.
The Loggers are now 9-1.
At Livermore, the Panthers improved to 4-4 on the season with a 14-point win over Irvington.
Tatum Fisher scored a team-high 16 points in the victory, including nine of her team’s 16 points in the third quarter.
Teammate Gabby Watson added eight points, while Bella Turner finished with six points.
At Orland, the Huskies turned in arguably their most impressive performance of the season.
Junior guard Kalie Chittendon scored a team-high 20 points, while senior Allie Cox added 10 points and junior Mariah Bravo chipped in seven points.
“The girls played their most complete game this season,” Fortuna head coach Tom Chapman said. “Offensively we moved the ball very well finding the open shot.”
Center Emily Sauers led an impressive defense and held Las Plumas’ chief threat in check for much of the game.
“I was really pleased with our defense,” said Chapman, who added that Chittenden, Cox and Bravo “worked very well together on defense creating a number of turnovers.”
The Huskies, who are now 7-3, will continue tournament play against Orland on Friday night at 7:30.

The Loggers, meanwhile, traveled with just eight players for a three-game road trip, opening with a big win over Windsor.
Samara Gaither continued her recent good form with a team-high 20 points, while Isis Poteet added nine points.
The Eureka girls enjoyed balanced scoring, with Baylie Battle finishing with eight points and Kaitlin Giacone and Oliviana Millender each finishing with seven points.
The Eureka girls, who have arguably been the most impressive H-DNL team so far this season, will try to keep rolling when they play Division-2 Cordova out of Sacramento at Merritt College on Friday at 5 p.m.
