The Eureka Loggers won their second straight tournament at Maria Carrillo in Santa Rosa on Saturday, beating Sonoma Valley 55-22 in the final.
And once again, the teamwork of the players played a key role in the victory as an impressive Eureka team improved to 8-1 on the season.
“Today’s ball movement was incredible,” head coach Cliff Napoleon said. “We found open shooters and they in turn knocked them down.
“Such unselfishness on the part of many of the girls.”
Kaitlin Giacone was named tourney ent MVP after three big performances.
The senior standout scored a team-high 22 points in the final and has hit the ground running this season, picking up just where she left off a year ago when she was named MVP of the Big 5.
Fellow senior Isis Poteet also has impressed early in the new season and after being named tournament MVP at Gridley last week, she was named to the all-tournament team this week, along with freshman teammate Tiara Maualuga.
Poteet and Maualuga dominated on the boards all weekend.
Samara Gaither also had a good tournament and finished with 18 points on Saturday in a breakout performance.
“I though today Samara Gaither made huge strides in her game,” the coach said. “She did a phenomenal job playing within herself and started using her natural talents to affect the outcome of the game.”
The Loggers have won six straight games and their only loss this season came against Acalances, the No. 2 ranked team in the entire North Coast Section, according to MaxPreps.
