Neyr’res Bartoo and the McKinleyville Panthers are trending in the right direction in H-DNL girls golf.

On Thursday, after the third round of league play at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course, the Mack girls took over the team lead in the season standings.

Bartoo led the way with the low round of the day for her first league win of the season.

The McKinleyville senior shot a 97, beating the field by an impressive 10 strokes and eclipsing her previous season best score by 10 strokes.

Her big round helped her team take the season lead and the Panthers now hold a 12-stroke lead over the Arcata Tigers in second as we head toward the midway point of the schedule.

The Eureka girls, who are third in the season standings, had two golfers place in the top four and three in the top nine on the way to taking the team win on the day with a score of 457, with St. Bernard’s second (466) and McKinleyville third (472).

Defending league champion Arcata, which had won the opening two rounds of league play, placed fourth on the day with a score of 499 and now trails the Panthers by 12 strokes in the season standings.

Eureka’s Kate Fazio had the second best individual round of the day after shooting a 107, followed by St. Bernard’s Hannah Finck, who was just one stroke back in third.

Eureka’s Sidney Caampued, St. Bernard’s Estella Monaghan and Del Norte’s Madi Calleja all tied for fourth with rounds of 110.

Charley Tygart, who had tied Arcata’s Madyson Nelson for low score in round two the previous week, was seventh on Thursday with a 111, with Nelson one stroke back in eighth.

Nelson, who placed first in each of the first two rounds of league play, still leads the season standings by an impressive 12 strokes, with Bartoo now second and Tygart third.

Rounding out the top 10 on Thursday were Eureka’s Mia Lopez (114) in ninth and Del Norte’s Sophia Jager and McKinleyville’s Addie Morrison tied for 10th with rounds of 118.

The fourth of seven rounds of league play will be held at Del Norte on Thursday.
