Pitchers Cameron Saso and Nolan Long both continued to impress over the weekend, as the Humboldt Crabs completed a 40-win season.
The Crabs closed out the 2023 campaign with a weekend sweep of the Sacramento Yankees, following a 6-1 win on Friday night with a 9-2 win on Saturday and a 10-1 victory in the season finale on Sunday.
The Crabs finished the summer with an eight-game winning streak and won 21 of their final 22 games to finish up with a record of 40-7.
Saso got his eighth win of the summer on Saturday, allowing five hits and four walks in 7.1 innings and striking out nine.
The former McKinleyville Panther was 8-2 in 10 starts this year and had an ERA of 2.04.
One day later, the impressive Nolan allowed five hits and three walks in seven innings and struck out five.
Nolan finished the summer with a record of 9-0 and an ERA of 1.37.
The Crabs overcame an early one-run deficit on Saturday’s win and gradually pulled away, scoring runs in six of the eight innings they went to bat.
Peyton Miller, Luke Reece and Javier Felix each had two hits to lead a nine-hit team performance, including a double by Reece.
Reece added two more hits on Sunday, while teammate Andrew Crane led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-5, while Felix added a double.
