By Ray Hamill — The McKinleyville 8-10 All-Stars have been putting up plenty of runs this summer and that continued to be the case on Friday.
Playing their opening game at the Section Tournament, the Mack players plated 13 runs in the second inning on the way to a comfortable 20-1 win over Susanville at Hiller Park.
After opening up a six-run lead in the first, the McKinleyville bats added nine more runs before the first out in the second on their way to ending the game as a contest.
The victory was the fourth in four postseason games for the District 26 champions this summer.
And once again several players stepped up with contributions from throughout the entire 12-player lineup, each of whom came to bat in the decisive second inning and most of whom had at least one RBI.
Cooper Jones, Reece Combs and Bo Battilocchi led the offense and each finished 3-for-3, while Braden Tullis and Colton Hawkes both had two hits.
Tatum Brock, Crew Hicks, Tyus Scofield, Rowdy Furber and Kaydee Carper each also had a hit to round out an 18-hit team performance.
Casanova Marshall added two runs in the win, while teammate Reylan Benge also made his presence felt at the plate.
The high-scoring Mack offense has put up at least nine runs in each of their four postseason games.
Friday’s win sets up a Sunday afternoon showdown at 1:15 p.m.
The five-team tournament will run at least through Tuesday, with an additional showdown on Wednesday if necessary.
In other local all-star action, the McKinleyville 12-year-olds won their opening game at the Section tournament in Yuba City on Thursday night, shutting out Chico Eastside 7-0.
Also on Thursday, the McKinleyville Juniors dropped their Section tournament opener in Anderson.
Both of those teams will be in action again on Saturday.
The Eel River 11-year-old All-Stars, meanwhile, opened their section tournament in Redding on Friday night.
