By Ray Hamill — The local Little League all-star district champions will all be back in action this week, as will the district American Legion clubs, as the summer baseball season heats up.

Two tournaments will be held here on the North Coast, including the 8-10 Little League section tournament, which will be hosted by McKinleyville, with the action getting under way at Hiller Park on Friday.

The five-team tournament will run at least through Tuesday, with McKinleyville opening on Friday at 4 p.m. against Susanville.

If the Mack All-Stars win that game, they will play again on Sunday at 1:15 p.m, while if they drop their opener they will play again on Monday at 6 p.m.

Also on Friday, West Redding will play Colusa at 6:15 p.m., with the winner of that game advancing to play Chico Central on Saturday.

Three other local all-star teams will also open their section tournaments this week.

The McKinleyville 12s play in Yuba City, the Eel River 11s play in Redding and the McKinleyville Juniors play in Anderson.

Closer to home the American Legion 17U District Tournament gets under way at Newburg Park in Fortuna on Thursday.

The Northern Humboldt Giants, Humboldt Eagles and Southern Humboldt 76ers will all be in action.

The Eagles and 76ers get things started at 4 p.m. on the opening day, with the winner advancing to play the Giants at 6 p.m.

The action continues on Friday with the losers of Thursday’s games facing off at noon.

The winner of that game will advance to play the winner of Thursday’s second game at 2 p.m.
