The Bercovich Honors opened a three-game series with a 5-2 win over the Humboldt Crabs at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday night.
The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for the home team, which dropped to 19-6.
The visitors scored three runs in the top of the third inning for a lead they would not relinquish, although the Crabs pulled within one late in the game after scoring runs in the fourth and seventh innings.
The Honors had the final say and added two more insurance runs in the top of the eighth.
Four of the visiting players had multiple hits in the win, including Zack Gardner, who was 3-for-4.
The Crabs managed eight hits, including a 3-for-4 night for the hard-hitting Luke Reece, who had a pair of doubles.
Billy Ham also had two hits, including a double.
Caleb Ruiz took the moss on the mound.
The St. Bernard’s graduate pitched six innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and striking out eight.
The two clubs will continue their weekend series with a single game on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., before closing out with a Sunday showdown at 12:30 p.m.
