The 19Us got the better of the 17Us in an all-Humboldt Eagles American Legion baseball matchup in Eureka on Thursday night by a score of 16-0.
Jeran Ford of College of the Redwoods led the way at the plate in the win and finished 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Fortuna’s Cody Collins also had a big day at the plate and was 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, as the 19Us improved to 2-0-1.
Brody Tomlin pitched four scoreless innings for the win on the mound, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out three.
Caden Vance threw two hitless innings in relief, while striking out two and walking one.
Willie Bommelyn also had a productive day at the plate and finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs, while St. Bernard’s freshman Michael Manzi finished 2-for-2 with two runs and Daniel Osborne was 2-for-3.
The 19Us will travel for a three-game series at Tehama this weekend.
Thursday’s game was the season opener for the 17Us, who will play home games against the Patriots and Northern Humboldt Giants on Tuesday (5 p.m.) and Wednesday (6 p.m.) of next week, respectively.
