The top seeds in the North Coast Section Division-4 softball bracket proved too hot for the Fortuna Huskies on Tuesday evening.
Just four days after a thrilling walk-off win over Hoopa, the Fortuna girls bowed out of the playoffs with a 7-0 loss to the Cardinals.
Newman pitcher Callie Howard threw a two-hitter for the win in the circle and finished with 10 strikeouts while walking just two batters.
Fortuna seniors Libby Johnston and Kylee Fennell each had a base hit, but the Huskies were unable to take advantage of their opportunities when they had runners on.
For the Cardinals, Jordyn Johnson had a double and a triple and Callie Howard added a double and a single and three RBIs.
Gianna Tamayo also was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Huskies concluded their season with a 12-10 record.
