VOTING HAS ENDED By Ray Hamill — The Big 5 gets under way next week, weather permitting, with a pair of games on Wednesday and two big doubleheaders the following Saturday.
And the big question as we get set for a new league campaign is who will walk away as champions?
The defending champion Eureka Loggers will be tough to stop with senior Kira Morris back in the circle and a dangerous lineup that’s building momentum ahead of their opener.
The Fortuna Huskies will also fancy their chances after an impressive 6-0 start to the season, with seniors Libby Johnston and Kylee Fennell giving them a potent one-two punch in the circle.
The McKinleyville Panthers, meanwhile, are always a dangerous opponent under head coach Shanna McCracken and are coming off a second-place finish in league a year ago and back-to-back North Coast Section crowns, while a young Arcata Tigers roster appears ready to make some noise this spring.
And rounding out the contenders, the Del Norte girls are off to a 4-0 start and eager to build on last year’s third-place finish.
Let us know who you think will win this year’s championship and we’ll publish the results before league plays begins on Wednesday.
Readers can vote once a day.
