BASEBALL POLL — Who will win this year’s Big 5?

VOTING HAS ENDED By Ray Hamill — One of the most anticipated league seasons of the local high school sports year gets under way next week, with the Big 5 set to begin in baseball.

Weather permitting!

It’s been a tough early season for most of the teams involved, with the weather playing havoc with the schedule and more games canceled than played.

That means the five contenders will have to hit the ground running, and that should make things interesting, as should the fact there are four new head coaches in league this year.

The big question is which school will walk away with the pennant.

The Loggers have the pitching to cause any team problems, while the Tigers are always (and we mean always) a threat under head coach Troy Ghisetti, as experienced a coach as any in the H-DN.

The Huskies will also like their chances with some quality seniors on their roster, as will the Warriors, who have impressed in the early season with a couple of nice wins under their belt.

And we can’t forget about the Panthers, who have also looked good in limited action during the preseason, including a big win in non-league action at Del Norte.

So who do you think will win this year’s championship?

Let us know and we’ll publish the poll results before the games begin on Wednesday.

Readers can vote once a day.

Opening day sees co-defending champions Eureka and Arcata face off in Arcata for what should be a pivotal showdown, as well as McKinleyville at Fortuna.

The action continues the following Saturday, with a pair of doubleheaders.

Arcata plays at Eureka and Fortuna plays at Mack.

Del Norte has an opening-week bye.
