Get ready for one more game at Jay Willard Gymnasium.

On Tuesday night, the Eureka girls comfortably took care of business in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division-3 basketball playoffs with a 71-20 win over visiting Elsie Allen.

The win sends the No. 4 seed Loggers into Friday night’s quarterfinal round, where they will host No. 5 St. Patrick-St. Vincent in what is likely to be the final game ever played at the iconic local gymnasium.

A victory for the Eureka girls would likely set up a semifinal showdown at No. 1 seed Marin Catholic.

The Loggers came storming out of the gates in Tuesday’s first-round game and opened up a decisive 24-7 lead in the first quarter.

There was no way back for the Lobos after that and the home team quickly extended its lead to 33 points by halftime.

Ten of the 12 Eureka players scored as head coach Cliff Napoleon was able to go to his bench early in the game.

Isis Poteet continued to impress and scored a game-high 15 points, as the Loggers improved to 25-5 on the season with their seventh straight win.

Claire Maples added 10 points, while both Aniah Gaither and Samara Gaither each finished with eight points.

Kaitlin Giacone also continued to impress and added seven points while Amaya Gee and Moriah Bowles each had six points, Maia Hales and Mariah Napoleon each had four and Marin Matteoli chipped in three.

Elsie Allen closed out the season 14-11.

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent girls had a forfeit win over Campolindo in their opening game.

The No. 5 seeds are 21-6 on the season.

  1. 71-20… very uneducational, no opportunity in reality… like a school math team tournament pitting High Schoolers against 1st graders… this is CIF…this is California education at its finest…
