Sluggish Wildcats top Laytonville, get set for St. Bernard’s

It wasn’t their best performance of the season, but the Ferndale Wildcats managed to get a win over Laytonville in boys basketball on Wednesday by the score of 62-45.

With the win, the Cats are now 12-6 on the season.

“We didn’t play our game and we didn’t have any energy,” head coach Tristan Waters said.

It certainly wasn’t all bad for Ferndale.

Thomas Fergison continued to impress and finished with a game-high 15 points, while Jack Westfall added 14 points.

The Wildcats also got a big performance from freshman Braeden Rice.

“It was good to see some role players run through our actions and play our game,” the head coach said. “Braeden Rice was playing great defense with active hands and was running the floor very well. I was very happy with his transition offense and passing.”

Rice finished with 10 points, as did teammate Trent Titus.

“It felt like a loss, but hopefully they saved themselves for the games we’ve got this weekend,” Waters added.

The Cats will host St. Bernard’s in a key Little 4 showdown on Friday night.
